Playgrounds & Dinosaurs

On Labor Day we headed downtown to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in search of dinosaurs.  There's this rock outside our apartment that looks remarkably like a dinosaur footprint.  We showed it to Jack, just to get the ball rolling on dinosaurs, and it worked like a charm.  We then had to explain, when Jack asked where the dinosaur went, that he fell into the mud.  But don't despair - someone found him, put him back together, and now he lives in a museum {okay, not entirely accurate but he's three and it worked for our purposes.  Much less terrifying than saying a giant asteroid hit the Earth and all the dinosaurs went up in flames}.  So it was off to the museum in search of this dinosaur and his friends.

The museum visit went fairly quick and most of it was spent in the children's play area, which was fine by me.  I'm not a huge fan of museums anyway.  Mark was quite disappointed however that he didn't get to spend his required five hours per exhibit - perhaps I should always take Jack with me.  We made our way through the gift shop on the way out so Jack could get himself a toy dinosaur, and naturally he picked the biggest one they had.  And just like that, "Dinosaur T-Rex" joined the family.

The Museum of Nature and Science sits inside Denver's City Park, so after our quick little museum tour, we went to the nearby playground and enjoyed some time outside, doing our part not laboring on this Labor Day.

And here's another video for my home movie collection taken shortly after we showed Jack the "dinosaur footprint" in our backyard.  He talked for at least 30 minutes about the dinosaur that left that footprint and his friends. I caught the last 12 on video, and then cut that down to around two minutes of storytelling.
