Maps :: An Update

Between road trips, hiking in the mountains, and a bit of sofa lounging, I do still actually make maps. Below is a snapshot of my last few projects, along with some stuff I did awhile ago but forgot to mention.

First, I was involved in the latest National Geographic Atlas of the World. I had a hand on all the maps, doing some QC work, followed by a little production work on the Greece and Turkey map. They gave my name a little shout-out at the end, in the credits, and thankfully so. It assured I got a free copy of the atlas, a book that normally runs well over 100 dollars.

Last summer I completed a map for National Geographic Magazine that is surprisingly still on newsstands, at least in the PNW. It can be found in their recent special edition entitled Sacred Places, which came out in November.

And here's a snippet of what I've been doing at work. It's a zoning map of downtown Salem, Oregon. It uses LiDAR, which is apparently my company's bread and butter {think of LiDAR as really detailed imagery that costs gobs of money to collect}. Next up is the city of Eugene and a recreation map of Mt Hood.

I've also been working on a map for Charles C. Mann's upcoming book entitled 1493, a follow-up to his last book 1491 {I suppose enough books have already been written about 1492}. More on that map once it's published. Stay tuned.
