There's no better way to prepare for one vacation than to take another. A short one. Mark's been doing work in Mississippi and after he finished, we met and continued south to the magical town of New Orleans - a town, truth be told, that I've visited numerous times over the last ten years but don't particularly like. It's the beignets that bring me back.

The actual reason for this trip was to visit my friend Amy. Amy and I have been friends since college, but haven't had a chance to catch up in ages.
While we did, Mark ate six beignets for breakfast. He's a modern marvel. My heart would have stopped.
(In the past two weeks, Mark has driven approximately 2,250 miles through eight states, ranging from Pennsylvania to Louisiana. Just in case you're curious, or need this put into perspective, it is 2,177 miles from Knoxville to Los Angeles.)
