An Educational Moment: Great Falls is located at the 'Fall Line', which runs all along the East Coast. The 'Fall Line' exists at the contact between the Piedmont province (metamorphic rocks) and the Coastal Plain (sedimentary rocks). Because the sedimentary rocks are more easily eroded, waterfalls result.

Great Falls Park
Because the weather was brilliant on Sunday, Mark and I headed north to Great Falls Park. The park, which is operated by the National Park Service, borders the Potomac River on both the Virginia and Maryland side. There are multiple hiking trails, along with opportunities for kayaking, rock climbing, biking, and picnicing. Below are some pictures from our day, followed by another nugget of knowledge for you all.
