The past 3 days, my dad and I were in NYC attending the 1st round of the tennis US Open and it was incredible! I have loved tennis since I was in elementary school and getting to attend a Grand Slam definitely ranks as the highlight of 2008 (and '07, '06...). We had amazing courtside seats, enjoyed $20 cheeseburgers and perfect weather, and both got a chance to interact with our favorite players (Rod Laver for dad, Roger Federer for me). Plus, it was great getting to go with my dad, who pretty much taught me to play when I was little (and whom, I have discovered, has a serious peppermint addiction. I have no clue how so many peppermints can fit into one suitcase, let alone his pockets!).
And for those curious, tennis-loving blog readers (of whom there are few), we saw Federer, Venus, Serena, Hass, Gasquet, Blake, Jankovic, and Ivanovich, plus a multitude of players I'm not too familiar with. We'll have to catch "pants-picking" Nadal next time.
Here are a few pictures from the tournament. Enjoy!
