There are few statements more true than the title of this post. And there are few people I'd rather be in California with than two of our closest friends and most consistent of travel companions. Two weeks ago we were able to spend eight days cruising around Southern California, five of those with Lottie and Guillaume, and it was one of my favorite trips to date. It was the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, with a bit of silliness, some much needed warmth, and for our London-based friends, an abundance of sunshine.
Within our little travel-team, we all have our parts to play. Guillaume is, for the most part, our photographer and a lot of the photos that will come over the next several posts are his. Mark is the Professor, keeping us informed of any and all facts and tidbits about what's around us. For this trip, I played the part of tour guide, making sure we had places to sleep and eat and things to do, and also making sure we didn't get lost in the process. And Lottie, well, her role is a bit fuzzy, but she was the only one who could sew a button back onto Mark's shorts, so we consider her fairly vital as well.
First stop on our tour of Southern California :: Palm Springs, home to a multitude of 1950's diners and one very large Marilyn Monroe.

Two Notes:
1. Palm Springs is a time warp. It felt like 1955 and we were the youngest people around by at least 40 years.
2. We stayed at a little hotel called the Los Arboles, which was cute and perfect and I highly recommend it.

And we have taken some rather odd group photos over the years. This one with Marilyn's legs is no exception.
