Rollin' Thunder

Someone would be crazy to come to Astoria and not get fresh seafood {I am ashamed to say not even the teeniest morsel of seafood has slipped passed these lips since we moved here in November...this isn't really shocking though. I don't like seafood.}. So before we pulled into town, we decided that we would try and endure a nice fish dinner, but then we walked past a place called Rollin' Thunder Barbecue advertising a pork sandwich and side for five dollars...

This place had potential for several reasons:
1. It didn't serve spaghetti
2. It was covered in dirt bike memorabilia
3. They actually had the word "tater" on the menu
4. It served sweet tea (gasp!)
5. The above mentioned sweet tea was served in a Styrofoam cup.

We have not seen a trace of Styrofoam since we moved to Oregon {and no sweet tea since passing into Indiana on our trip west} so we took this as a really good sign. We live in a state where if you buy a 12-pack of sodas at the grocery, you are charged .20 cents extra for each can. Actually, all recyclable products have what is a called a "deposit" added onto the cost. You can get your "deposit" back by taking them to approved recycle centers. It took Mark and I four months to figure this out, which is good because we've really been baffled by the extreme price of sodas, orange juice, etc...so needless to say, Styrofoam and other environmental train wrecks aren't very prevalent.

Behind Mark, on the other side of that wall, sat the owner of this fine establishment, sitting in a beat-up pleather recliner watching white-trash TV. He was from Texas. And his barbecue was just dandy.

Minus a few hush puppies. Those were sadly missing.
