60 in 60, Take 1 (and 2)

Awhile back, Borders had an "Everything Must Go Because We're Closing" sale so we picked up a 60 Hikes within 60 Miles book. We'd actually completed four featured hikes already, thanks to some past trips to the area, leaving us 56, which I plan to tackle in the next seven months. Unfortunately a majority aren't really possible until the mountain snow melts, but there's no time to waste.

#1: Wildwood Trail, Washington Park, Portland (12/12/10)

This trail is less than five miles from where we live and stays relatively snow-free, just wet. It was a leisurely stroll with some redwoods and sequoia's thrown in for good measure. Not quite as impressive as their California kin, but nice all the same.

Hike #2: Eagle Creek Trail, Columbia River Gorge (12/18/10)

Having no clue what the weather would be like in the Gorge, we took a chance and headed 40 miles east of town to the Eagle Creek Trail. It was a virtual winter wonderland. And at a balmy 40 degrees, we were regularly drowned in melting snow which fell from the trees above. Four miles, two waterfalls, no Yedi's, lovely snow.
