PDX :: Random

Aside from hiking and farmer's marketing, there are a few other random moments captured from our four day stint in Portland. So, for prosperity's sake, here they are:

1: We found the 2 most perfect Lego men ever in a toy shop at the Denver airport. There are 16 collectable mini-figures in mystery bags, so you don't know which one you'll get. We stood there for 30 minutes feeling the bags, trying to find the Afro hair and the sombrero. And we guessed right! It was thrilling. Meet Barry Legolo and Salinas Gracias. Yes, we named them. That's just how we roll...

2: Portland lies on the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers. Willamette is pronounced will-LAMB-ette, with an emphasis on the second syllable. Just a little FYI so you don't scream tourist next time you're in town.

3: The most enormous, overpriced omelet in town. Our advice: Skip the famed Pancake House and eat at the farmers market instead. Especially when the best pancakes exist on the other side of the country, at the Vienna Inn in Northern Virginia. Your bill there will only be a couple of dollars, not 30!

4: Another dream house. I love this house! Actually, I loved almost all the houses in the Hawthorne district. It rivals this house, which I mentioned awhile back.

5: And lastly, downtown was flooded with young people in costume. We have absolutely no idea why. But here they are, circled up, playing spin the bottle. Whoever your bottle points to gets a hug. How friendly. And completely bizarre.

I love the little lego men!

Stumbling on random costumed folk doing strange things is one of the best parts of traveling. (We saw zombies in Brussels!)
