Below are some pictures from Mt St Helens. The weather was a bit precarious (blue sky, clouds, rain, hail, snow...repeat). We attempted to hike the 7 mile Boundary Trail to get a better view of Spirit Lake, however a crazy snow/rain event caused us to turn back after two miles. The top of my Christmas list for 2009: some rain pants. This was the second time this year they would have come in handy. The first time being in Acadia.
Unfortunately, we didn't catch a good glimpse of the crater. The clouds never parted long enough for her to reveal herself. We encountered this problem again at Mt Hood in Oregon. Bummer.
Fun Fact: Seven volcanoes in the Cascades are still considered active. Mt Rainier is potentially the most dangerous of the seven, since it looms over the Seattle metro area. The others include: Mt St Helens, Baker, Glacier Peak, Mt Hood, Mt Shasta, and Lassen.

re: rain pants from a fan of rain pants. splash out (sorry!) and get ones you can zip on from the top and the bottom. that way when they heat up you can create airvents to let in the cold without letting in the rain. wow. i am such a geek.
