Birthday Road Trip

Below are some pictures from our recent excursion to North Carolina. We spent Friday night loitering around Asheville and then hit the Blue Ridge Pkwy on Saturday before heading home.

As I was about to take this shot, the guy in the yellow shirt (I wonder if he knows Curious George...or was that the guy in the yellow hat?) sat down, smiled at the camera, and then continued walking down the sidewalk. I love it.

To our surprise, it was 'Drum Circle' night in town. They started around 6 and by 9 the crowd was huge.

Since this has been the year of superlatives (Easternmost point in US, tallest escalator in Western Hemisphere, etc.), we decided to hit one more: Mt Mitchell - highest peak east of the Mississippi. It was a tad cloudy at the top (6000+ ft on a hazy day will do that)...

From Mt Mitchell, we hiked the Deep Gap Trail to Craig's Peak. Mt Mitchell is visible to the left (with the little bald patch). The two guests of honor in the Appalachians this day: bad air and, as always, the color green.
